Along with technological innovation of rapid prototyping, an artificial organ model with high shape and color reproducibility has become relatively easy to prepare and obtain. However there are few artificial organ models that reproduce physical properties such as hardness, softness, and surface friction characteristics. This study proposes to use “Bionic Humanoid” to quantitatively understand qualitative sensory expressions and quickly deliver technology seeds to society by eliminating trial and error. The Bionic Humanoid is an elaborate model of a human body equipped with sensors, to quantify such sensory expressions. The Bionic Humanoid can be used, for example, to quantify the requirements of medical doctors, assess surgical skills, replicate physical constraints for the development of a medical device, and provide young surgeons with training opportunities. We here describe a design concept and a prototype development of Bionic Humanoid.
