In mountain tunnel excavation work, numerous accidents have been reported due to face surface collapse. It is known that face surface displaces by a few centimeters just before the collapse. However, it is very difficult for workers to find such displacement visually. In this paper, we propose a new method for real-time detection of minute displacement of tunnel face surface using high-speed 3D laser scanner. Compared to the previous works, our method can capture the sudden displacement of the surface in real time without any preparation to the surface.
