This paper proposes a method to decide the free/locked states of a joint with a low melting point alloy (LMPA) using an induction (IH) device and describes an experimental investigation that the IH makes the LMPA joint generate heat efficiently. The resonance frequency of the LC circuit used in an IH device changes when the inductance changes. From this property, we propose a method to measure the temperature of the LMPA joint indirectly by the resonance frequency, and the state of the LMPA joint is defined. Experimental results showed that the resonance frequency and the temperature are well correlated. Moreover, the effect of inductance of the work coil to the heating rate is investigated. Finally, the results showed that the heating rate increased as the inductance decreased.
