Abstract

At an unsignalized pedestrian crossing, the effect of two-way communication between the crosser and the driver was verified by realizing a display from a car on VR in response to the crosser’s indication of their intention to cross. We quantified the reduction in the time loss for both parties to cross compared to the conventional case, where the vehicle crosses after confirming that the vehicle will stop. In addition, we investigated the psychological state of the crosser when the display is shown as an indication of intent from the driver.
