The construction of road markings is accomplished by drawing draft lines and applying paint along those lines. Because road markings require visibility, accurate positioning, and straight lines, the drafting process is an important step. Conventionally, this drafting work is done manually by workers, who have to stand or squat repeatedly, which places a heavy physical burden on them. In addition, high technical skills are required to perform the work efficiently while taking into account positional accuracy and linearity. Therefore, this study proposes an automatic drafting system using an autonomous mobile robot based on a new drafting method using chalk, aiming to reduce the burden on workers and save manpower. We will conduct demonstration experiments to confirm the effectiveness of the system and discuss issues for future robot development.
