Development of Wave Measurement System for a Small Buoy

Abstract

Wave measurements are used in weather forecasting and in the development and maintenance of bay facilities. Many buoys have been used to measure waves. We have conducted tank experiments and shown that buoys equipped with multiple IMUs can be used to measure waves, but the system needs to be made smaller and more power-efficient for practical use at sea. In this paper, we report on the configuration of the components to be installed inside the buoys and the wave estimation algorithm for the buoy system to develop a wave measurement system to be installed on small buoys.
