For slow pyrolysis, time course of the temperature didn't change along the radius direction of the biomass particle because thermal conduction would influence strongly on the heat transfer during the pyrolysis rather than heat of heterogeneous reactions. It was found that the gas flow rate had two peaks due to the decomposition of biomass and tar decomposition in the equipment. On the other hand, there are two regions for heat transfer during fast pyrolysis. One could be due to heterogeneous chemical reactions and the other could be due to radiation heat transfer through the pores in the biomass.
