Dentigerous cyst is one of the most common odontogenic cysts. The cyst typically occurs in the region of the lower wisdom teeth and maxillary canines, but is rare with an impacted premolar in the sinus. We report a case of a dentigerous cyst arising from an impacted first premolar, occupying the maxillary sinus.
A male in his 40s was referred to our department because of swelling and pain of the right buccal mucosa. Radiographic examination showed a cystic lesion in the entire right maxillary sinus containing the first premolar. A clinical diagnosis of dentigerous cyst in the right maxillary sinus with infection was made. The lesion was removed under general anesthesia. Histopathological examination revealed a dentigerous cyst. The patient has been followed for 30 months since surgery and remains in good condition.
