During the past 3 years, 21 patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the oral region were treated with so-called BM therapy (the continuous combination therapy of Peplomycin and Mitomycin C) . Thirteen cases were male, and 8 were female. The ages ranged from 28 to 78 years with a mean age of 56.3 years. As to the primary sites, 7 cases were in the mandibular gingiva, 6 in the floor of the mouth, 5 in the tongue, 2 in the maxillary gingiva and 1 in the buccal mucosa.
One to three courses of BM therapy were carried out. The overall response rate was 22.2% with 4 cases having partial response (≥50% regression) . Histological grading on the primary tumor by Shimosato et al, was from Grade I to III.
Side effects were detected in 13 cases (61.9%), in 2 of which BM therapy was discontinued.
