抄録

Additions of extracts and extracted residues of some crude drugs and kampo medicines promoted bioethanol fermentation by Saccharomyces cerevisiae. In particular, the extracted residue from mao-to, which is one of the kampo medicines used for a fever, painful cold or influenza, showed a strong promotion effect. By addition of mao-to residue, the fermentation rate was accelerated over 7-fold and 2-fold compared with no addition and with cellulose powder addition, respectively. Further, the inhibition of furfural was successfully recovered by addition of the residues. These promotors will contribute to not only the reduction of production costs in the bioethanol industry but also the effective utilization of crude drug and kampo residue wastes.
