Peter Behrens (1868-1940) was a leading pre-modern designer in Germany. As the character designer that has left the greatest footsteps in this field, his most memorial work is the democratic slogan "For the German People" sculpted on the Federal Parliament Building in Berlin. Behrens attempted new artistic methodologies during the transformation period in German Culture as the "person to meet demands of the time". His paper, "FromDevelopment of Character" published in 1902 emphasized that characters symbolize the times as so with architecture and therefore serve as a clearmental indicator of ethnicities. This paper focuses on 4 fonts to clarify Behrens' effort in character design.
