This research aims to illustrate the design education in the l950s by comparing the design subjects in national universities. As for the material, author used subjects names and number of credits from Syllabus of Tokyo National University of Fine Arts & Music, Tokyo University of Education, Chiba University and Kyoto Institute of Technology. The result is as follows : (1) There were some design subjects in general education and they were compulsory subjects. (2) Design subjects were classified into compulsory subjects and elective subjects. The ratio of these two subjects was different in each University. (3) Each university had its own curriculum in the 1950s. Design education in National University was important part of design movement in Japan.
