In curve design, controlling the characteristics of the overall shape that emerges from the combinations of shape elements is important. However, the conventional shape-information is difficult to represent the characteristics of the overall shape. In the present study, macroscopic shape-information based on information theory was defined, and statistical analysis using some basic curved profiles was carried out. As a result, curvature entropy based on entropy and Markov process was found to be a useful design guideline. It represents the complexity that is the characteristic of the overall shape in the basic curved profile. Thus, it was suggested the efficiency of macroscopic shape-information in curve design-support.
