Abstract
This is a research on subsistence lifestyles in a folkloristic and douguological point of view, mainly by hearing and behavioural researches in 2 areas both located on northern part of Kyoto prefecture, Japan. In Tangoyura area, the subject’s life is supported by human relations. His symbiotic and economic lifestyle and philosophy are clearly shown in the ways of making and using used charcoal, which is one of the typical examples of subsistence life. In Kumohara area, 2 subjects who are hunters have technique to make tools, and vast knowledge to live in and face the nature thorough ridding of vermin. These subjects’ lifestyles, techniques and knowledge of everyday life are important expertise to realise subsistence life.
