Abstract
An educational program that teaches “hands-on” design appreciation with designer's chairs makes it easier to understand workings of design in daily life (relations among various factors in creating forms, such as shape, materials, colors, and functions) than ordinary visual appreciation. The program's superiority in learning effectiveness was observed. Systematizing and effectively administering the program (i.e., managing instructional materials and outreach efforts) would require cooperation among local schools and the establishment of a supporting system including local government, public facilities, nonprofit organizations, and private companies.
