Abstract
To study the synchronous responses of facial expression to face icons consisting of eyes and mouth parts, we examined changes in subjects’ facial expressions during the following three tasks with different creativity levels: simple viewing of smile and angry face icons; placing of eyes and mouth parts to create smile and angry face icons; and drawing of smile and angry face icons. In the task of drawing smile icons, many subjects’ facial expressions changed: the corners of their mouths were uplifted. Those subjects whose facial expressions changed during this task were found to enjoy and appreciate art; they liked looking at drawings in general, and they often scribbled and drew in everyday life.
