Abstract

This study investigates the impact of using Head-Mounted Displays (HMD) for Virtual Reality (VR) in the spatial design process. By establishing a system where an operator handles design tasks, allowing for idea generation to prototyping in VR, we compare the HMD-VR environment's effects on designer decision-making to a traditional CAD environment. Conducting two body-scale design experiments, we find that VR enhances design diversity, increases revisions, and provides an experience close to real space, potentially improving design decisions.
