Indonesia’s mathematical literacy, based on PISA results, remains below the OECD average, with most students performing under level 2 and very few reaching the top levels. Mathematical reasoning is the weakest area, indicating a clear need for improvement. In response, the government introduced the Minimum Competency Assessment and supported teacher development programs. Teaching methods such as Contextual Teaching and Learning, Problem-Based Learning, ethnomathematics, and social open-ended tasks are suggested to improve skills. Adopting successful international practices may further support efforts to strengthen students’ mathematical literacy and prepare them for future challenges.
