A review of previous research indicates the potential of a new approach for reclaiming salinized soils by using salt-accumulating plants such as algae, rice, sunflower, cotton, Atriplex, Juncus, Karnal grass, Para grass, Matricaria chmomilla, etc. This method is able to produce additional economic value to unproductive land, remove salts from the area affected by saline problems, and does not require high initial costs and time consumption. However, we have little knowledge of this new approach. Further research on salt-accumulating plants is necessary for the effective use of this method. Research should involve the selection of salt-accumulating plants, their selective absorption of ions, the salt-harvest ability at different growth stages as well as that of different plant organs, and the balance between the yield of economic value and salt-harvest yield.
