The rocket launch facility was inaugurated in 1969 and completed in 1971 at Syowa Station, which is located just under the night-side auroral oval in Antarctica. In 1970-1985, fifty-eight sounding rockets were fired into the polar upper atmosphere to make direct measurements of the physical parameters within auroras. By a complex array of instruments onboard, the input fluxes of auroral producing particles and the resulting electric fields, ionization, heating and luminosity were obtained successfully. Three topics of the obtained results are presented; electric field variations inside and outside of auroras, dependence of electron number density on the polar disturbance and differences in the energy spectrum of auroral electrons among three types of auroras. In addition to the topics, the facilities in the rocket range at Syowa Station are reported.
