Two types of newly developed neutral sizing agents, rosin based SIZEPINE NT Series and a new material based KS-950, are described.
Technically, SIZEPINE NT Series is designed for the good sizing effect in the papermaking of pH 68 range by modifying rosin for the necessary specific hydro-phobicity. Applications of SIZEPINE NT Series for the neutral papermaking using recycled paper containing calcium carbonate and for the alkali papermaking by the use of calcium carbonate filler are given as the illustrative example.
KS-950, a new material based neutral sizing agent is, basically, so called non-reactive type thus it will overcome the shortcomings inherent to AKD and ASA. By a small dosage and at a wide pH range of acidic to alkali condition KS-950 gives good size effect which becomes apparent even right after the papermaking.
