Mishima Mill, Daio Paper Corporation installed its first 6, 000 kW-generator turbine in 1963. The mill now has 17 boilers and 13 generator turbines under operation of which the total electric generating capacity is about 500, 000 kW.
Since the oil crisis during the 1970s, the goal of the mill has been to have reliable energy supplies.
In so doing, the mill has undertaken the following steps :
1) switching the fuels from oil to coal.
2) upgrading the efficiency of the recovery boilers.
3) decreasing the purchased electricity.
4) upgrading the efficiency of generator turbines.
5) undertaking energy conservation measures mill-wide.
