Abstract
At the present time, it is impossible for us to think of society without radiation in medicine and industry as well as the continual development of nuclear power. However it is clear that radiation may cause dangerous human health effects, and the number of victims who developed radiation-dermatitis and neoplasia made it evident that more adequate safety measures were needed for radiation workers and the general environment. In this paper, the author will review the history of radiation hazards and radiation protection, and will introduce the recently published "Recommendation of the International Commission on Radiological Protection".
