Abstract

Human beings are inseparable from history. Modern professional nursing as established by Florence Nightingale is valuable to the history of nursing as is proved by the fact that "Nursing", a general term, is often identified with "British Nursing". American nursing was started by the American humanitarians who were influenced greatly by Florence Nightingale, who developed her nursing based on a love for mankind. In spite of many twists and turns caused by social as well as economical changes, American nursing has developed into professional nursing based on behavioral science. A brief report on early nursing in the United States is presented in this paper.
