This study examined a transformation of the social structure through the in-depth research and interviews on houses and living styles in the four depressed areas of Metro Manila. Particular attention is devoted to the characteristics of the ways in which the limited living spaces are utilized and the residents' sense of belonging. As a result, new relationships between the residents and the community were found out. At the same time, traditional relationships of expanded families and kinship systems have been strengthened in new forms. I argue that there can be observed a new social structure described as Philippine Urban Style.
