Abstract

Successfully preserving the rare technology of powered join weaving, which is key to the heritage of bingo tatami facing, in functional condition   Bingo tatami facing, which is a high-quality tatami covering made with soft rush from the eastern part of Hiroshima Prefecture, has become endangered. We aim to preserve the weaving machines and technology of join weaving in the bingo tradition. We have successfully restored (repaired, reconstructed, and improved) and preserved in working condition a rare powered join weaving machine. Moreover, we have produced 3DCG of the restored weaving machine and represented this mechanism. In the future, we aim to contribute to the creation of mechanisms that can be used by manufacturers of bingo tatami facing through the restored join weaving machine.
