Seinaiji district of Achi-mura village, Nagano have been keeping the custom of “out-going” farming called “Dezukuri”. With its steep slopes and deep gorges, it has few patches of plain-land. Under such circumstances, the villagers cultivate on the mountain slope and build a small house in which they stay during summer. But with the development of modern commercial economy and social change, the unique life style has declined with only a few exceptions. This study describes the places where mountain houses were settled, how people managed to maintain them and what is needed as an ecomuseum activity for the cultural inheritance by old peoples who tells stories about the life.

Karakami is one type of interior material that decorates wall inside of building and residence. There are two types of Karakami, that have been developed in Kyoto and Edo. Karacho in Kyoto is a family shop that was built in Kanei period (1624-1643). Karaccho has kept historical Senda family documents from Edo era. Demand and supply of Karakami have been gradually changed in 400 year history of Karacho. With this research funding, Sendaida documents have been investigated to reveal the change in sales and business management at Karacho.

The purpose of our study is to determine the status of Cooperative Housing Communities aged after their establishments. The subject of our research is the TOJUSO Series, 20 apartments located in Osaka’s city center. They have small scale, with 7 to 50 dwelling units each and their ages are from 17 to 42 years. This paper consists of surveys to the preservation of ownership and interviews with the dwelling owners. They revealed that there are instances, the first owners and the second young owners participate in maintenance activities together, whereas succession to next generation doesn’t work well in some apartments.

This study investigated importance of selecting the relocation site for the victims' group maintaining their lifestyle to recover from disasters in case of the eruption of Sakurajima in 1914. The interviews with offspring of the emigrants from Kagoshima to South Korea revealed their real life in Gimje-city; they could own the land and get the job easily as same as other migrated victims in Japan, their residences and lifestyle were similar to those in Japan, however, very little remained of their original culture in their dialect and foods, and the human network around the elementary schools was established.

What is the condition necessary to make use of the experience of a past recovery support to the next disaster area?
The authors engaged in community building support to prevent isolation in several disaster-stricken areas after the Great East Japan Earthquake. In 2016, the authors established a non-profit organization, “Tsunagari-Design Center Asuto Nagamachi, ”to continue the practice. Our support has two types. One type is an approach to succeed to community brought up in temporary housing in a disaster public housing. Another type is an approach to support the community development from the shift period of the disaster public housing. This paper is a report of the activity that we worked on to make use of these experience in Kumamoto earthquake.

This paper reports the research result carried out as the development research of our previous research to clarify the rent formation mechanism in Japan. First, we developed building micro geodata that recorded the spatial distribution of about 60 million residential buildings throughout Japan. In addition, we developed the database that can evaluate the value of about 11 million rental apartments and condominiums in Japan by giving them information on about 400 types of rent formation elements. Moreover, by clustering the database and performing sparse modeling on each cluster, we developed a method that clarifies rent formation factors that contribute positively or negatively to rent. As a result, as a nationwide trend, population dynamics around the property and the fullness of function of property contributed positively to rent formation. On the other hand, disaster risk does not affect rent formation.

The purpose of this study is to propose a supporting system for working non-architecture professionals of various backgrounds who aspire to tap into architecture, enhance their lifestyle and housing literacy thus eventually becoming a full-fledged mature citizens within the framework of ICT-advanced university distance learning. The survey and analysis conducted on students shows the evidence that the combination of formative courses employing manipulative scheme and comprehensive courses which offer diverse architectural viewpoints will be most effective for such architectural introduction. The methodology of the proposed WEB-based learning portfolio parallels the architectural process of integrating unrelated fragments on its way to a final production.

We examined the improvement of miners housing and housing for employees of Mitsui Mining based on the historical materials former owned by Mitsui Mining and its affiliated companies kept in the Mitsui Library. Miners housing, which were misery in the Meiji era, had improved up to more than 30㎡ before World War II. Housing for employees, which had been supplied in accordance with the job class, had also successively improved mainly for the lower classes. At the Mitsui Mining, every office worked to improve the living environment. In Kawashiri district, Omuta City, company houses of Mitsui Mining had formed cityscapes collaborating with the land readjustment projects.

Radioactive contamination from the TEPCO Fukushima Daiichi accident has continued in rural areas. In this study, Iida Village, Fukushima Prefecture is targeted. The author has conducted continuous surveys of radioactive contamination, villagers' awareness of life reconstruction and behavior, surveys of residential contamination, and trial cultivation on decontaminated farmland. The purpose of this study is to clarify the actual situation of pollution, the actual condition of housing reconstruction, the living life after evacuation and the problems of agricultural life in long-term contaminated areas. we will discuss prospects of architecture, housing studies in rural areas affected by radioactive contamination.

This study aims to spatially investigate the pedestrian wind environment in the village located on Ogi island in the Seto Inland Sea, Japan. Then, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations were performed to analyze the effects of village morphology such as stone retaining walls and alleys configurations, on pedestrian wind environment. The wind speeds in alleys was relaxed owing to its narrow width in winter season and the location of leeward of a mountain. Then, the spatial distributions of exceedance probability for wind speed to contribute to wind potential maps were estimated.

In this research, we focus on the risk of unused vacant houses in vacant rental housing, utilizing the information on registered houses of the new housing safety net system, and grasp and analyze the actual situation. As a result, the vacancy continuation period of registered houses is about 10 months on average, about 10% is vacant for more than 2 years, the longest vacant room lasts for 6 years becomes clear. By the quantitative analysis, it is revealed that the risk of becoming unused vacant houses is concerned in those rental houses in major metropolitan areas, as the rental housing is far from the station, and the rental housing with a large residential area has a longer vacancy duration.

As a result of the survey, the rate of relocation before and after divorce was extremely high, because there was no housing system available at that time, many moved to non-residential houses and low-quality “WOLSE”. Single parents tended to experience multiple moves, and there were cases where more than 5 were transferred in 20% in quantitative surveys and up to 8 were moved in qualitative surveys. South Korea has a system to use private rental housing as public housing, but it is difficult to secure due to the landlord's incomprehension, there are quality issues, and it may be difficult to renew contract because of the circumstances of the landlord.

Housing management is an important issue of housing policy in France. The status and the role of inhabitant is not clearly defined. Depending on the social capital theory, we analyse two actions, which are designed to build trust relationship among inhabitants. The one is collective garden and the other is the Neighbours’ Day. There several types of the collective garden in Paris and all year programs are invented from one day event of the Neighbours’ Day. If they help the development of social inclusion of inhabitants, it does not lead them to become housing management players.

The examination of the function and the meaning of the black doors found in Japanese folk houses was the starting point for this research. Through previous researches focusing on Japanese rituals, we considered the ecstasy over rituals as one of the true natures of dwelling spaces. We conducted field surveys focusing on dwelling spaces in settlements that still have traditional rituals. Thus, we discovered that the Japanese dwelling spaces not only incorporate rituals such as traditional festivals, but also semiotic rituals such as black doors. The ecstasy over rituals brings sharp and subtle tension to the dwelling space.

This study examined the dual structure in urban space from the perspective of society equals space structure by clarifying the leased-rented houses and residents in Fukuoka Castle Town. Various relationships between lending and borrowing were existed between samurai and townspeople. And these exchange relationships exceeded the class and status of samurais and townspeople. They mixed beyond their designated residential areas in the castle town. It became clear that variety of dual structures not only geographical and identities were included in Fukuoka and Hakata.

In recent years, wooden houses have become more commonly produced using pre-cut systems, and the division of labor has progressed. With the change of the production system, the structure is breaking down. Therefore, in this study,the actual condition of the structure and precut factory is investigated. In terms of the structure, there were about 20% of the properties that were below the specified level in the specified wall quantity survey. In addition, a design improvement method is proposed to ensure a stable structure by design review.

In this research, we researched on the energy efficiency and the deterioration before and after renovation under cold climate which easily cause problem such as dew and mold. Also, we analyzed that the mortgage to achieve renovation with energy efficiency and airtightness. As the result, we found the deterioration even in a housing after 90’s which used same construction method. We recommend renovating and at least to inspect a housing situation with air and thermal leakage. Also, in the areas where have high land price, the reverse mortgage is easy to apply.

Strengthening carer support by creating vacant homes to create a community place.
This report is a practice aimed at verifying issues related to regional cooperation and horizontal development of Carer's Café Michikusa-tei, which promotes caregiver support. Through the 1. Open renovation, 2. Utilization based on the idea of local residents, we achieved certain results such as increase in nearby users. In addition, the presence of general customers as a place to live in the community creates a variety of roles and effects cyclically, and the utilization of unoccupied houses enables users to create independent and everyday places. Finally, we mentioned the management styles through questionnaires and roundtables for the management.

Successfully preserving the rare technology of powered join weaving, which is key to the heritage of bingo tatami facing, in functional condition
Bingo tatami facing, which is a high-quality tatami covering made with soft rush from the eastern part of Hiroshima Prefecture, has become endangered. We aim to preserve the weaving machines and technology of join weaving in the bingo tradition. We have successfully restored (repaired, reconstructed, and improved) and preserved in working condition a rare powered join weaving machine. Moreover, we have produced 3DCG of the restored weaving machine and represented this mechanism. In the future, we aim to contribute to the creation of mechanisms that can be used by manufacturers of bingo tatami facing through the restored join weaving machine.

Let’s make safety net of housing and living through Mokuchin-method
The goal of this project is to develop “Mokuchin- Method in Neighborhood” that provides affordable houses which has certain quality for people requiring special assistance in securing housing. We investigated rental-housing market and interviewed various stake holders. Then we redeveloped Mokuchin-Recipe, a design tool to renovate old houses and apartments. By using this new version of Mokuchin-Recipe we realized 2 renovation projects as a case study. As a result, we revealed the bottlenecks of this project which is lack of community’s commitment, lack of finance system, lack of monetization of architectural design and lack of linkage between stakeholders. Through this research, we are prepared to start a new business to support non-profit-organizations.

Practice of shelter management planning in cooperation with city officials and facility managers from facility construction stage.
This study aims to develop a new original operating model for a large-scale shelter in the aftermath of a severe earthquake. Throughout 16 WG activities with city officials and facility managers, we have implemented large-scale evacuation shelters such as an advanced this facility's shelter management manual, introducing disaster prevention programs, and introducing NPO groups that can be supported. Through those activities, changes in awareness and behavior of city officials and facility managers were observed. In addition, as a large-scale shelter management tool that can be used at other facilities, shelter management checklists for all other shelters, and a shelter assessment sheet for self-assessment after the disaster. Shelter design 25 was created, showing requirements for shelter facilities (hardware) and operation (soft).

Proposition of principles of housing in hot and humid climate and requirement for revision of building
energy policy
Liaison committee for proper housing in climate of Okinawa has been discussing and proposing the ways of housing in hot and humid climate and requiring improvement of measures and policies of building energy efficiency. The committee claimed that architects in Okinawa have ways to control hot humid climate with multiple elements surrounding a house and they are fundamentally different ideas from “building envelope standard” by building energy efficiency act. The committee presented principles of housing in Okinawa's climate and expressed concerns to Okinawa prefecture and Ministry. In 2019 the Ministry revised the measures and announced a plan to readjust the standards.

Utilization of a vacant house as the second homebase for smoothing environmental transition to post massive tsunami
For the areas where the serious tsunami damage caused by the Nankai trough earthquake is assumed, utilization of vacant houses on the hill area as the second homebase is suggested for recovery from the earthquake disaster, reconstruction of their lives and sustainable community. Even if, in the conventional disaster prevention plan, the life that is to be protected, however, in primary refuge and uniform temporary housing their living is forced to “with nothing but the clothes on their back”. In contrast, finding a second place keeping an important thing for the family or the place that can continue life after the suffering is significant for lubricating environmental transition.
