Anthelmintic Effect of Organic Phosphorous Preparation JSR-381 of Low Toxicity on Intestinal Parasites of Dogs

Abstract
The new organic phosphorous preparation JSR-381 of low toxicity, or 0, 0-dimethy1-0-1, 2-dibromo-2, 2-dichloroethyl phosphate, was examined for anthelmintic effect on four kinds of intestinal parasites of dogs. A total of 21 dogs were employed. The standard dose applied was 75 mg per 10 pounds of body weight, or 16.7 mg/kg.
1. When the standard dose was administered daily for two consecutive days, 94.3% of the ascarids, 97.8% of hookworms, and 99.9% of whipworms were removed on the average. The mean rate of expulsion of tapeworms was only 11.0%.
2. When about twice the standard dose was administered daily for two consecutive days, an expulsion rate of 100% was obtained both from ascarids and hookworms. No effect was observed upon tapeworms.
3. When about twice the standard dose was administered only once, ascarids were removed from dogs at a rate of 72.4%, on the average.
4. Soft feces or diarrhea was seen during the period of administration and a few days which followed. No other side effects were apparent, in spite of the cholinesterase-inhibiting action of the organic phosphorous preparation.
5. Clinical examination made it clear that dogs harboring whipworms (20 cases) and those infected with hookworms (3 cases) had turned to be negative for parasite egg excretion, without exception, and that the state of feces had been improved conspicuously.
