When inoculated with avian infectious laryngotracheitis virus, chicks less than 20 days old manifested sneezing and conjunctivitis. Their trachea was filled with yellow creamy substance. When kept in the same chicken house with infected chicks, 5 of 18 oneday-old chicks and 6 of 6 120day-old chicks contracted infection.
The rate of appearance of reaction after inoculation with attenuated virus was 5.0-26.9% in broiler chicks and 0-13.3% in layer chicks. There was no difference in the production of neutralizing antibody or ability to prevent infection between the broiler and layer chicks.
