Abstract
In November, 1983, bloody diarrhea and fever were noticed in 32 fattening pigs on a farm in Niigata Prefecture. All the pigs except one, died. Autopsy revealed the black watery contents, formation of pseudomembrane, and a large number ofTrichuris suis organismsin the cecum and colon.Escherichia coliandClostridium perfringenstype A, includingα-toxin and enterotoxin-producing strains, were isolated from the small and large intestines. The cause of death was presumed to be a heavy infestation ofT. suisaccompanied with infection ofCl. perfringenstype A.
