Pyridinic nitrogen species were found to create active sites on nitrogen doped carbon catalyst for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). However, factors to promote the ORR remained to be elucidated. In this work, we focus on ORR mechanisms on flavin enzyme which has pyridinic nitrogen species and is highly active for the ORR within an organism. pH effect on catalytic activity and selectivity of flavin enzyme was investigated by electrochemical methods. The results showed that hydrogen peroxide formation was increased in acidic medium. The mechanisms will also be discussed based on spectroscopic studies.
