This paper describes the effect of a vertical partition on heat transfer in a porous medium heated from the side. A boundary layer model is used to obtain a simple analytical representation of the heat transfer rate.
The results are in good agreement with numerical calculations based on a finite element method. The partition has the effect of reducing the heat transfer rate by about 65% in the high Rayleigh number range.
