The density of Japanese mealybug, Planococcus kraunhiae (Kuwana), on Japanese persimmon fruit was higher on the plot frequently applied cypermethrin, than that on the untreated plot. The number of mealybugs found on ‘Fuyu’, a non-astringent cultivar, was higher than that on ‘Hiratanenashi’, an astringent cultivar, probably because the calyx of sweet persimmon is not elected and the bugs sheltered under it are protected from insecticides and rain.
