Metacercariae of Paragonimus mexicanus collected from Ecuador were orally given to cats, and worm nodules obtained were studied histopathologically. There were differences among nodules in their sizes and intensity of inflammatory reactions around the nodules, and these nodules were classified into four stages. Each stage of nodules has in common features in a new capilary growth and granulation tissue formation around eggs. Granulomas consisted of a variety of inflammatory cells, such as plasma cells, eosinophils, neutrophils, lymphocytes, histiocytes, etc. Within the histiocytes, hemogiderin excreted after phagocytosis of host erythrocytes was recognized.
