This paper presents an experimental study on the effects of boundary layer thickness on the flow past a cone placed on a flat plate. The main results are as follows : (1) The flow around the cone with a dummy, which can be regarded as a flow without the effects of boundary layer thickness, is basically different from the flow around the cone placed on a flat plate because of the existence of necklace-like vortex around it. (2) The separation line on the cone surface curves with increasing of the vertex angle of the cone, and the angle of the separation point increases with boundary layer thickness inside the boundary layer.
