An experiment was performed on free convective and radiative heat transfer from highly populated p. in fin arrays. Data analyses were made in consideration of the temperature distribution in p. in-fins, radiative heat transfer, and base p. late convection. The free convection heat transfer characteristics of the p. in fin arrays were well expressed by rendering the Nusselt number and Rayleigh number in terms of the horizontal p. in p. itch as a characteristic length, and the generalized characteristics were similar to those of rectangular fin arrays. An experimental formula of the p. in fin array performances was presented.
