This paper describes the velocity distribution in the radial flow of a free liquid film. The free liquid film flow was generated by making a thin radial liquid film along a horizontally placed circular disk and letting it flow into the atmosphere. The velocity profiles in a thin free liquid film having a thickness of about 0.2 mm were measured with the aid of LDV. The results showed that a boundary layer type velocity distribution gradually changed into a uniform one in the downstream direction. The experimental results for laminar free liquid film flow were compared with the theoretical values obtained by solving the boundary layer equations numerically.
