This paper deals with the air-flow type of mill which is suitable for fine pulverization of adhesive materials in dry condition. Axial and swirling air-flow is induced by two co-axial impellers set on the driving shaft in the mill casing cooled by water circulation inside it. The mechanism of pulverization is clarified by visualization and CFD analysis of the internal flows, and a large number of experiments of pulverization. The pulverization for three kinds of adhesive materials is performed under different conditions of the clearance between the second impeller and the casing inner wall and at different circumferential speeds of the impeller for a suction flow at the discharge port. The appropriate air-flow condition for each material exists to prevent fine particles from adhering on the inner wall. The characteristics of the mill are also improved largely by air cooling and suitable selection of the inner wall. Thereby, continuous fine pulverization of adhesive materials is realized.
