The fundamental wear properties of plasma-sprayed alumina coating film on cast iron were studied experimentally in lubricated sliding friction. The test type was pin-on-ring and the lubricating state was boundary lubrication. The representative wear curve showed the critical sliding distance at each load and sliding velocity. The wear coefficient was of the order of 10-6 under the critical sliding distance and of 10-4∼10-3 above the critical sliding distance. The critical relationship between the contact pressure and the sliding velocity was introduced to distinguish the low wear region from the high wear region.
