Papers designed for speciality applications may be considered as engineered structures, designed to achieve performance targets including mechanical performance, barrier properties, chemical resistance, thermal stability and aesthetic properties. In order to achieve performance requirements, speciality papers may comprise a range of raw materials including wood pulp, synthetic or man-made fibres, other natural fibre types, particulate fillers, dyes or optical enhancers, other performance additives, coatings or printed surfaces. This article has illustrated how TENCEL® fibres can be used to enhance the properties and performance of speciality papers whilst maintaining a world-leading sustainability profile and minimizing the environmental impact of raw materials production, conversion and finished goods disposal at the end of the product lifetime.
