Pathogenicity to strawberry cultivars was studied in isolates of Verticillium dahliae obtained from various plants. Representative Japanese cultivars, Toyonoka and Morioka 16, were susceptible to all isolates tested, regardless of designated pathogenicity group of the isolates. The isolates exhibited different levels of pathogenicity to Catskill and Guardian, the cultivars known to be resistant to Verticillium wilt, suggesting the pathogenicity to be quantitative. No connection was indicated between pathogenicity to strawberry and the pathogenicity group of the isolates.
