The inhibition of overwintering of the western flower thrips Frankliniella occidentalis by the removal of a greenhouse plastic film was investigated in Hokkaido. In all of the four greenhouses whose plastic film cover was removed during winter in 2-year experiments, F. occidentalis female adults were not found in the next spring. This method could be useful in eradicating F. occidentalis from greenhouses.
