I researched the Scarabaeoidea fauna inhabiting the karst plateau on Shimoji-shima Island, Miyako Islands, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. This area is a submerged karst landform with well-developed Karen felt, and the flora is extremely poor owing to a dry climate and salt damage. One species of the Hybosoridae and nine species of the Scarabaeidae inhabited the karst plateau, and both the species number and population size were small. Among the recorded species, three species, Protaetia ishigakia miyakona, Anomala albopilosa sakishimana, and Holotrichia loochooana loochooana, had large populations and their ecology such as the feeding habits of the adults could be observed. Scaevola taccada was the only plant targeted for feeding by adults of these three species. In addition, the body size in this populations of these three species seems smaller than those in the neighboring areas. It is likely that the nutrient intake for growth by larvae is low owing to the poor soil.
