Abstract
PC/nylon 6 and PC/amorphous polyamide (Am-PA) alloys with different end group compatibilizers have been investigated. As compatibilizers, two different types of poly (allyl-co-maleic anhydride) were used. One has an alkyl group and the other has 2, 2-diphenyl propane on the end of the side of branched chains for improving the compatibility between PC and compatibilizer. The interactions between compatibilizer and each polymer and the effects of compatibilizer on the blend morphology were investigated by the measurements of DSC, FT-IR, DMA, and electron microscope. From the results of DSC and DMA, we found that the compatibilizer having an end group of 2, 2-diphenyl propane is more compatible with PC than the previous alkyl group one. So, we presumed that the improved compatibilizers are able to enter into the PC phase more easily. In the case of PC/Am-PA blends using the improved compatibilizer, double layer morphology with finely dispersed phase was confirmed by TEM.
