This study aims to clear up the questionable points of reduction of natural disaster in depopulated area. In order to survey the consciousness for natural disaster of residents, a questionnaire survey was conducted in 10 area of Yatsushiro City. All of this area is surrounded by steep slope and connected to the city area by poor network. In conclusion, the difficulty of maintaining the community based disaster mitigation effort mainly due to the aging and depopulation problem.
