In the treatment of head and neck cancer, it is essential to select treatment options that consider the curative potential while preserving the function. In particular, decision making regarding the preservation of the laryngeal function is critical in cases of hypopharyngeal and laryngeal cancers. In addition, the evaluation of the laryngeal function before and after thyroid surgery is indispensable. An understanding of laryngeal rehabilitation is necessary, not just for treatment. In this manuscript, I will discuss my involvement in head and neck cancer and thyroid care to date and express my intention to continue pursuing the preservation of patients’ respiratory, vocal, and swallowing functions while remaining engaged in the field of laryngology.
