I chose my subspecialty in otolaryngology when I was transferred to a university hospital in my seventh year as an otolaryngologist (ninth year as a physician). The professor in our department recommended that I specialize in laryngology and head and neck oncology. I thereafter was primarily responsible for cases of head and neck tumors. In my ninth year in the field of otolaryngology (eleventh year as a physician), I became the head of laryngology in my department. I encountered difficult cases and sought advice from my senior department colleagues and well-known experts in the field. As part of my clinical research in laryngology, I have worked on cidofovir treatment for laryngeal papillomatosis.
The importance of the functional improvements gained from laryngeal surgeries has enhanced my awareness of functional preservation in head and neck surgery.
In this panel, I aim to introduce my clinical research and described some challenging cases in order to provide some meaningful insights for young physicians.
