Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to discuss an application of corpus-based linguistics to English education. In the first part, the background and the method of corpus-based linguistics are to be explained. Then, activities of the classes where the method of corpus-based linguistics was applied are to be illustrated in detail. Based on the insights obtained through these firsthand class activities, the characteristics and the significance of the application of corpus-based linguistics to English education are to be argued. The followings are the five concluding points of this discussion: 1) The learning process of this method is inductive 2) Students can use the same tools as researchers use 3) Paper materials cannot replace computer corpus 4) Corpus can be used as various materials 5) Students autonomy: teachers as assistants
