We propose a three-dimensional display using a phase-mode 1D spatial light modulator that improves
the image quality by optimizing the phase distribution by using the iterative Fresnel method and a
dummy area. The numerical results show that the image quality and the root mean square error are
improved. To improve the reconstructed image quality as an alternative method, speckle averaging is
employed. Two methods are discussed based on the numerical results.
