Abstract
The development of human resources in the fields of artificial intelligence, data
sciences, and information security as part of the fourth industrial revolution is an urgent
issue in Japan. There is also a need to create educational materials that will engender
an interest in these areas among high school students in mathematics education, which
plays a part in human resource development. The “nature of integers” was first dealt
with in revisions to the Mathematics A section of the High School Curriculum
Guidelines made in 2009, and the increase in high school students with a deeper
learning of integers relative to the previous curriculum has increased the likelihood of
development of educational materials regarding the RSA encryption system. From the
perspective of both social demands and mathematics education, these educational
materials are important, as they will not only enable the study of the RSA encryption
with the help of the knowledge of the theory of elementary numbers, but they are also
critical to encryption systems used in our modern society. However, the cognitive load
on students caused by the many concepts and much knowledge required to learn it has
made it difficult to develop educational materials for the RSA encryption system. In this
study, a direct approach (section 4.3.1) is used to lighten the cognitive burden on the
sides of the students in developing educational materials for the RSA encryption system.
